JOHOR BAHARU: Johor Petroleum Development Corp Bhd (JPDC)has received many enquiries from supporting industries in the oil and gas sector to operate in the Pengerang Integrated Petroleum Complex (PIPC).
Its chief executive officer, Mohd Yazid Jaafar, said the presence of these industries was important to ensure the smooth running of various facilities in PIPC.
He said JPDC planned to set up light industrial park for logistics, maintenance and fabrication business.
"We also plan to offer financial, legal and insurance services related to the oil and gas sector. The whole ecosystem must be ready, that is our challenge," he told Bernama.
JPDC is a federal government agency established to coordinate the development of the oil and gas sector in Johor, especially downstream industries such as processing and storage of oil and petrochemicals.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Datuk Seri Idris Jala and Menteri Besar Johor Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman are joint chairman of JPDC.
Mohd Yazid said the decision to attract the supporting industries was because the corporation was aware that they would offer vast opportunities to the locals.
"JPDC will boost its efforts to attract these supporting industries to Johor and and at the same time cooperate with government agency like Iskandar Regional Development Authority," he said.
He said in the long run, JPDC also planned to attract local and foreign offshore supply base companies to operate in Johor.
The PIPC project involves the development of 8,000 hectares in Pengerang, of which about 2,549.51ha were acquired by Petronas to develop Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development project, which involved an investment of RM60 billion.
