Press Release:Member of Parliament for Pengerang contact Chinese NGO's to have dialogue

At 2.00pm,5 JUNE 2012, Pengerang Member of Parliament, Dato'Sri Azalina Othman Said had requested to hold a dialogue with Pengerang Chinese race NGO organizations through Hai Kiong Niang, the Chairman of Pengerang Residents' Association (Persatuan Penduduk-penduduk pengerang, PPP).

Committee member, Angry Lobster Cikgu Goh Woan Tyug had received information from PPP concerning this matter, although YB Dato' Sri Azalina Othman did not mention about the dialogue content details.

Besides that, the Pengerang Residents' Action Committee (Jawatan Kuasa Penduduk-penduduk Pengerang, JKPP) was also informed regarding this matter through PPP. Other than that, no other NGO was informed.

Angry Lobster Muture Interest Group and JKPP had called back to YB Dato' Sri Azalina Othman even though on the same night, but the call was not answered. When we used Hai's telephone and called again, only then did she answer.

The original plan of YB Dato Azalina Othman was to hold dialogue with Chinese NGO's only and Malay NGO's were excluded.

During the telephone conversation between JKPP Cikgu Adam Rafik Thiagarajah and YB Dato'Sri Azalina Othman, Cikgu Adam had rejected this offer and emphasized that this dialogue must be held only when both Chinese and Malay NGO members participate.

Finally the two concerned parties decided that this dialogue was to be held at 10.00 am, 8 JUNE 2012 at the SJKC Yok Poon school hall.

Although the content and purpose of the dialogue were not explained, it was thought to be connected with the issue of Chinese cemetry in Pengerang.

Our organization will discuss concerning this topic with other Pengerang NGOs. Representatives and Observers will be papointed and participated in this dialogue.

Regarding a BERNAMA report yesterday, the Chief Police Commisioner Johor, Datuk Mohamad Moktar Mohamad Shariff said that a special team to investigate the 45 police report concerning Petronas Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development (RAPID) will be established by Johor Police.

We welcome the action taken by PDRM regarding this issue. During a petitition campaign under Section 19, Standing Orders of House of Representative which was carried out last March, some parties had tried to disrupt and disturb the campaign. Any obstruction and sabotage towards this campaign can be construed as an offence tied with activities that threatens parliamentary democracy and the police should take serious action against those who were involved.

Although the announcement from Johor Police and the dialogue between ethnic Chinese NGO offered by YB Dato' Sri Azalina Othman occurred on the same day, our organization does not want to be involved with the two matters. We hope the police authority will carry out their duty in a professional manner in handling actions that try to sabotage and threaten the peace of citizens of Pengerang.
